WHY CAMBODIA?
After years of external and internal war, Cambodia has a tremendous story. The country still faces many difficulties; political infighting - that sometimes turns violent - and danger from undetonated bombs - which minesweepers are seeking out, have stirred international aid, which has helped to build roads and improve health care. The country is however stable enough for tourism and the offering is plentiful. Travelers to Cambodia should best proceed directly to Siem Reap, to explore the many extraordinary temples in the Ancient city of Angkor. Then there's Phnom Penh, a city revitalized - this intriguing capital has enough of interest to hold visitors for several days. Sihanoukville, four hours south of Phnom Penh, offers decent beaches and a sleepy atmosphere. For the more adventurous, there are the remote and hilly provinces of Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri, close to the borders with Laos and Vietnam.

EXCITING DESTINATIONS IN Cambodia
PHNOM PENH
Phnom Penh is, a fascinating, bustling capital city on the banks of three rivers - the Mekong, the Tonle Sap + the Tonle Bassac. Begin with an overview of the city from atop Wat Phnom, and then head to the incredible Silver Pagoda in the Royal Palace complex. Explore the country's ancient past at the National Museum, or struggle to make sense of the recent traumas in the country at the Tuol Sleng Museum. Sample fine meals along at Sisowath Quay along the riverfront.
SIEM REAP
It has been referenced as the 'epicenter of modern-day Cambodia' - with world-class guesthouses and hotels, food and drink, plus a number of sumptuous spas + shopping. Siem Reap also has an exciting nightlife scene along 8th Street. Visit the Cambodia Landmine Museum - popular thanks to its informative displays. Siem Reap is also the gateway to the Floating Villages - go the extra mile to see the village on stilts - Kompong Pluk, with its 'bamboo skyscrapers'.
ANGKOR
Not far from the city of Siem Reap is the Ancient City of Angkor. There is no greater concentration of architectural riches anywhere on earth. Angkor Wat, a temple within the ruins, is still the world's largest religious building. What you explore here today is simply a skeleton of what was - Angkor was a city that at its height, swelled to a population of 1 million, when London was still a small town of 50,000. Take your time to explore the hundreds of temples in the park - we recommend a 1-3 full days.
MONDULKIRI
The province of Mondulkiri (Meeting of the Hills) is the wild east - a world apart from the lowland territory. Here you will find a mix of hills, pine groves and jade green rainforest. In recent years conservationists and sustainable tourism stakeholders have taken a keen interest in this area a home to the hardy, but welcoming Bunong people and their noble elephants. Travellers can choose from a variety of eco-resorts, and local community stays. A visit to the Elephant Valley Project is also a must!
KRATIE
This beautiful province, spans the Mekong in Cambodia. Much of Kratie's population depends on the river's waters - away from the river, it is a remote and wild land. Kratie prides itself on having some of the best sunsets in Cambodia. Here, travellers can soak up some of the community tourism experiences on offer along the Mekong Discovery Trail. You may even spot one of the 75 critically endangered freshwater Irrawaddy dolphins, who have made their homes in the Kampi area.
