EXCITING DESTINATIONS IN THAILAND
BANGKOK
See the sunrise at a temple as monks collect alms - you'll marvel at what peace can be found in the midst of such a chaotic metropolis. Bangkok is a cultural hub of Southeast Asia - a bustling city, bursting with a variety of fine, award-winning cuisines, hotels, hospitality, and excitement! See Muay Thai (kickboxing) at the Lumpini Boxing Stadium or hop the bars with the backpackers at the bars on Khao San Road. Must-do's include visiting the Grand Palace + indulging yourself in a 5* Thai spa day.
CHIANG RAI
The northern city of Chiang Rai, Thailand, is a bustling place of more than 200,000 people. For travellers, Chang Rai is the start for trips to visit local hill tribes, elephant treks and tour the famous Golden Triangle area - where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet at the Mekong River, about 12 mi/19 km away. Chiang Rai has several interesting temples, but Wat Phra Kaew, where the Emerald Buddha was first discovered, is the best known. The city also has a small - yet lively night market.
CHIANG MAI
Chiang Mai is an ancient city, once the capital of an independent kingdom called Lanna, "the land of a million rice fields". The moat around the original town remains intact. There are many interesting wats (temples), including Wat Phra Singh. Chiang Mai the country's 2nd largest city - with most of Bangkok's amenities, including excellent food and accommodations. Chiang Mai is a must-see - especially during the Loy Krathong Festival, when the night sky fills with paper lanterns.
PHI PHI ISLANDS
Located in the Andaman Sea - between Phuket and Krabi, the Phi Phi islands are incredibly beautiful. Popular for snorkelling amid coral and colourful tropical fish, beachgoers can explore the many white-sand
rings islands, with cliffs that rise from the clear water. There are no hotels on Phi Phi Leh and no cars on either island. Phi Phi Leh also has interesting caves worth exploring, and many contain ancient paintings. The islands have developed in a somewhat unsustainable manner, so travel with care.
KHAO YAI
Khao Yai National Park is Thailand's best-known and most important expanse of heavily forested wilderness. The park, which covers an area in excess of 772 sq mi/2,000 sq km about 120 mi/200 km northeast of Bangkok, is at the gateway to the country's northeast.Khao Yai has more than 31 mi/50 km of trails throughout the forest, and informative national park guides are available to lead visitors on treks through the forest to a wildlife watchtower. There are also several stunning waterfalls.
