Giant's Causeway

WHY NORTHERN IRELAND?

In Northern Ireland, you will find many of the same delights as in the Republic: ancient stone circles, Celtic high crosses, historic towns and treasures, lively pubs and friendly people.

You will notice a slightly different accent, but you'll be welcomed with the same warm hospitality.

From the vibrant capital Belfast to the walled city of Londonderry to seaside resorts and pretty coastal villages, there is much to explore. Inland, there are tranquil loughs (lakes) and woodlands, the beautiful Antrim glens and Mourne Mountains, and the stunning scenery of the Antrim coast—including the phenomenal Giant's Causeway.

EXCITING DESTINATIONS IN  NORTHERN IRELAND

LONDONDERRY

Londonderry, Northern Ireland, a very old seaport was founded in AD 546. Now it's called Londonderry by the Protestants and Derry by the Catholics. You can walk around the top of the old city walls, a circuit of about 1 mi/1.6 km, and visit historic buildings. One of the best ways to see the city is on a guided tour. Sights include the Gothic St. Columb Cathedral + the Guildhall . Behind the Guildhall is the port from which millions of Irish left for North America

 ANTRIM

The County of Antrim holds some of Northern Ireland's most beguiling attractions. Among its draws are the Giant's Causeway - one of the most dramatic sights in Northern Ireland - and the 90-ft-tall round tower in Antrim Town, the most perfectly preserved structure of its kind in all of Ireland. The northeastern coast offers a wonderful drive from Larne to Bushmills; if time allows, make a detour through some of the famous Nine Glens of Antrim. Lastly, a must-see stop - Ballycastle

BELFAST

The capital of Northern Ireland is an industrial city that was once synonymous with sectarian violence, but that's changed as Belfast emerged as a growing cultural centre. The city is compact, and many areas are off-limits to automobiles, so it's a pleasant city to walk. Belfast has charming architecture—as you walk,  look at the buildings to see ornate figurine carvings. The ill-fated Titanic was built at the Harland and Wolfe Shipyards in Belfast where you can visit and discover

 ARMAGH

Armagh - 35 mi/55 km southwest of Belfast, boasts a surprisingly large number of attractions for a town of its size. The tomb of Brian Boru, first king of Ireland, is there, and nearby is Navan Fort, home to the Celtic kings of Ulster and the oldest settlement in Northern Ireland (all that remains is a small ruined fort). Literary royalty is honoured in Armagh, as well—the town owns a manuscript of Gulliver's Travels, corrected in Jonathan Swift's handwriting

 BUSHMILLS

Once you arrive, tour the Bushmills Distillery - oldest in the world. Bushmills is perhaps more known for its famous coast - otherwise known as The Giant's Causeway. Legend has it that this UNESCO World Heritage site of 37,000 hexagonal basalt columns  was put in place by the giant Finn MacCoul. Scientists, however, blame 60 million-year-old volcanic activity. Also, take the time to visit the nearby ruins of Dunluce Castle while here - for breathtaking views
