A finger on travel's shaky pulse

A few weeks ago we discussed the ever-changing travel regulations set by the Canadian Government which now include a mandatory hotel quarantine.

At first glance, we were supportive of these new guidelines - hey, if it helps reduce the spread of the COVID virus, we'll support - but seeing how this has been managed so far, I say with trepidation - Canada's hotel quarantine regulation has been a total disaster.

Next week I will discuss this in-depth, along with the brand new news regarding Air Canada's somewhat forced agreement to refund their travelers in exchange for a Government bailout.

Air Canada has already paid out more than $1 billion in refundable tickets since the start of 2020. Travel agents alone, face up to $200 million in commission recalls if mass refunds from Canada’s airlines proceed. For Canadians looking to travel again when it's safe to do so, this is an ongoing, and developing concern we should all be monitoring. In my mind, travel is not primarily leisure. Thousands of Canadians still need to travel for work, for family, for medical reasons, and for education. They require safety and support, and that's not happening.

I aim to offer more coverage on this to come as we analyze concerns for the future of travel for all. If you want to learn more - check out the latest on our Connection Tours Blog. Stay tuned, we'll keep you posted.
